Through the eyes of shelter dogs, discover powerful lessons about love, forgiveness, relationships, boundaries, and the extraordinary gift of second chances.

Second Chances
What began as volunteering at an animal shelter became an unexpected journey of discovery. Each dog I met had a story, and each taught me something about people, relationships, and life itself. Second Chances invites readers to look beyond labels, reconsider first impressions, and recognize the extraordinary possibilities of a fresh start.

Leo: Beyond the Label
Leo helped me see Rottweilers completely differently. I used to be afraid of them, believing they were aggressive, dangerous dogs to avoid. But Leo was as sweet as can be! Despite his large size, he was gentle, loved being petted, and quickly became one of my favorite dogs to walk. He taught me to see dogs as individuals rather than judge them by their breed or reputation.
Meet the Dogs Who Taught Me

Bruce: Learning to Be Brave
Bruce is the little Beagle who stole my heart. Although I was not planning to adopt a dog, I could not leave him behind. He was trembling in the back corner of his kennel, looking absolutely terrified. I could not bear to leave him at the shelter another day. Over the past six months, I have watched Bruce become more confident and adventurous. But something unexpected happened along the way: he has helped me become braver, too. Our journey together is one of the stories you will discover in Second Chances.

Matana: Pulls My Heartstrings
Matana's story is what motivated me to redo the shelter's adoptable dog album, rephotographing over 50 dogs and designing a new album because first impressions matter. Matana had been at the shelter nearly a year, but playing fetch with him, I found him to be a fun, loveable dog. I was determined to help him get his forever home, along with the other shelter dogs. I cried over Matana, really feeling for him, yet not in a position to adopt him myself. Read about his happy outcome in Second Chances.
